Bo Diddley - "Spring Weekend 1959" (Checker)

That's a record i would like to know more about... I'm no record collector and to tell you the truth i hate record collectors. Most of 'em just buy discs to satisfy their greed and to pomp their-selves to their friends about "that piece of rare vinyl". Anyway, I never knew the existence of this LP. I never found it on my way and probably if i did, i wouldn't have the money to make it mine. It supposed to be a "private pressing", whatever this shit means but i tell you guys, this is a hot smokin' piece of rock n' roll! It has a surprisingly good fidelity for the time it was recorded (rough to the bone!) and the Originator here just kills! I didn't found on the net more things about it. I just made an order n' i can't wait this big fat piece of plastic to come in my hands. It has only seven songs, but the band is at FULL POWER and Bo's vocals came out so distorted and raw like i never heard him before! This was at frat party on Cornell University and i can imagine hearing it, what a blast these lucky bastards at the audience had!  The rip's not mine and probably many of you already downloaded this same zip file from many other blogs but who cares, huh? That's another one! Hear it, dance to it and tell me if yourself is strong enough to resist and not buy this platter! Low bitrate (128Kbps), high energy!

    This is a totally new one for me. I'm sure it must be a bootleg or some rare foreign pressing but I've never seen it before. Can't wait to hear it.

    Apparently this is a bootleg reissue of an extremely rare 70's bootleg. This release is still available, I think. I bought my copy from cryptrecords.com, and at least they still list it in the r&b section of their website.

    BO DIDDLEY Spring Weekend 1959 (2009 US limited edition 7-track LP pressed on Heavyweight Vinyl, capturing The Originator raw and alive at a frat party at Cornell University in the Spring of 1959! Surprisingly good sound [for the time], coupled with the sheer wild exuberance of Bo and his boys, adds up to 36 minutes of classic late 50s rock 'n' roll, delivered in the inimitable [though many have tried!] Diddley style! Sealed picture sleeve).

    My father was a Sigma Pi in 1959 and attended this show. We also have a copy of the original pressing. One of his fraternity brothers was a big music fan and also on the lacrosse team. He discovered Bo on a lacrosse trip in the south and organized the show in Ithaca. Apparently it had to be held in a Veterans Hall because it was too big for any fraternity house. Hope that helps.

    This was my Uncles frat party. He was in the electrical engineering frat. His friends did the recording. The stories I’ve heard from their parties match the wildness of this recording. Rough raw wild fun. Rumor has it they made some milk rum and may or may not have put a keg thru a window. Regardless they and the other two farts were asked to not come back to the Ithaca eagles. It’s a gem of raw pure golden American rock and roll. You can’t help but move your butt and smile ear to ear listening to this. I digitized this LP years ago. I don’t know if my copy has leaked or spread. I dont think so. But I transferred it via a custom Audio technica lp player via an Oade Bros Warm Modded UA5 into a tascam cdrw700
