With grief read this morning the tragic news of Rob 'Throb' Young's death. The former Primal Scream guitarist was the original guitar hero in a band I grew up with and still has a special place in my heart. Rob was present in every zenithal Scream moment, especially on 'Screamadelica' and 'Give Out But Don't Give Up', both personal favorites of yours truly. A proper rock & roller indeed. We all gonna miss those licks and riffs...

About me
Dad of three Handsome Devils. Garage Punk pounders, Soul stompers, Punk Rock 'n' Roll burners, Greasy R&B stormers, Funky sizzlers and Mod Freakbeat fuzzters and ravers (mostly)! Grown Up Wrong in the 90s, hooked with the grooves of Acid Jazz and Madchester's Baggy scene. A lot of Indie Pop jangles too. Stoner/Doom is my guilty pleasure. Reverend in the Church of Venerated Saint Johnny Thunders. In love with shakin' maracas, tambourines and wailin' farfizas and harmonicas. Little Richard was the King & Queen of Rock'n'Roll. The first Punk Rocker was a gay blackman from Macon, GA. Subvert Normality, Kill All Hippies. Antifascist/Antiracist. Olympiacos Piraeus tifo. *There's no need to repeat myself. If you consider yourself a real music fanatic, then buy the records by the bands and artists I'm talking about.*

Bobby Gillespie and Andrew Innes of Primal Scream issued a statement:
ReplyDelete"We have lost our comrade and brother Robert Young. A beautiful and deeply soulful man. He was an irreplaceable talent, much admired amongst his peers, In the words of Johnny Marr “Throb with a gold top Les Paul – unbeatable”. He was a true rock and roller. He walked the walk. He had “Heart & Soul” tattooed on his arm and I’m sure on his heart too. He once said to me “when we go onstage it’s a war between us and the audience.” He never let go of that attitude.
Our love and thoughts are with his sons Brandon and Miles and their mother Jane, his wife Rachel, and his immediate family.
