The Cramps - "Human Fly / Domino" (Vengeance, 7" - 1978)

Days and years are going by much quicker than you might think. It’s already three years since Lux Interior; the Bad Elvis left this world for another. I’m not saying dead cause I’d like to remember him always as a zombie! My favorite, the coolest and the dirtiest! A primordial swamp hillbilly punk who came to this world to remember us poor sinners how rock & roll was a force of nature and not just music to dance by. I always put the Cramps in the punk movement and not in the psychobilly area. They were PUNKS! In the true-est sense of this word. And they got further than more acolytes did. They didn’t just got back to the basics, they denude it, had with it WILD SEX, discharged it from his recent years guilts and make it again DANGEROUS! Well, this is a VERY HARD TO FIND item of the Cramps discography. And a very expensive as well if you can find it in a mint copy. It came out from their own label (I think…) Vengeance, and has a DIFFERENT somehow dirtier mix of “Human Fly” than the one most most of us know from “Off the Bone”. Producer here's too Alex Chilton, but still this looks like a nonidentical version of the well known song. Don't know, if someone of you guys and gals know some more, shine a light. As my partner JP said, “You can hear Lux singing very close to the mic and the sound quality is better!”
Bizzz, bizz, bzzzzzzzzz!

  2. Thanks!
Of course they were punk, much more than lots of bands with this label.

  4. It's up on ebay all the time so I would not call it seriously rare. And for any collector of 50/60 45s the price is still a bargain. I never hear that there is a different mix and my "off the bone" vinyl sounds exactly like my 45 copy. I guess there will be bad mastered cds or poor mp3 be around that you may think theere is a different mix?

  5. From Popsike on this item:
"This is a very rare record and you would be very lucky to find it in anything like as good condition as this. The record is near mint, the label is near mint and the sleeve is excellent with just a few creases and folds as shown in the picture. This record has been played only a few times."

    End price: GBP 129 (!!!)

I didn't spoke about mp3s mate. My "Off the Bone" CD (with the original 3G re-production front sleeve)has for sure a more 'polite' sound. Don't know, maybe you're right, but i need more on this. Anyone?

  7. both, price and rarity factor are sure subjective things.. if you check popsike you'll see that it's up on ebay all the time. The pice does vary... 130 pounds is not that much if you are collecting RARE 50s and 60s records.. (I mean records that show up maybe ONE copy in 5 years for sale...) but for sure this is a very subjective thing! anyway, great blog! and this record, rare or not is one of the best ever made! Every household should own one!

  8. I totally agree mate! What i wanted to say actually is that for a late 70s release a price about 150 Euro is quite a lot! And many Cramps fanatics consider this as one of the 'mega-rare' items of the band's discography. On the other hand i know cause i did saw it once, that it exist at least one bootlegged release of this single... Many thanks buddy for stopping by. Thnaks also to Holly, Dave, Bluesistheteacherand the other Anonymous lads for their comments.

  9. Talking abour alternate mix or not: I guess is just that the 45 rpm SG sounds 100 times better than the 33 rpm from the LP and 1.000.000 times better than the CD!!! Thanks a lot for these jewels, Mihaleez & JP! Cheers from Spain!
